Default Installation Problems FIXED! Tried and tested solution

Hi there!

This is a possible solution that may help all you people out there who are having problems with the second BF1942 game installation disc. This DID actually work for me...

I've been searching the BF1942 forums for ages on this one. It's when you get that annoying 'Specified component cannot be found...' message when installing the game from the second disc...?

Anyway, I couldn't find a decent solution at all. However, some users did suggest it might be a physical problem with the second game installation disc itself and that it may need cleaning, so I thought about this.

I bought myself a SkipDR (by a company called Digital Innovations - have a look for their web site) CD repair kit, ran the disc through it, installed the game again and BINGO! - it worked!

From going on what I read, it looks like a problem with the copy protection system EA use on their game discs. It seems that it only takes a few minor marks on the game disc itself to actually cause a problem - silly really when you think that with some of the game distributions they actually put the 2nd game disc in one of those crappy paper CD wallets with the sticky seals. (I now keep mine in a proper jewel case,).

This was the problem I had. Where I've been taking the 2nd game disc out of it's wallet and putting back in again, some of the sticky seal on the game wallet had 'transfered' itself onto the game disc. A quick and efficient clean was all it needed.

Another thing I discovered was that EA may be bringing out a BF1942 'Collectors Edition' set which includes BF1942 plus all the addon packs. This will (hopefully,) contain a more robust version of the game discs themselves. This is a great alternative if you'd rather not buy a SkipDR. - but remember it could be useful for other game discs you may have problems with.

Hope this all helps. Happy gaming people!
