Here is a snippet of the Radeon 9700 Pro and it's drivers from Sharky Extreme, 4 those who still think ATI Support is Lacking.
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Review By Vince Freeman : August 20, 2002 Catalyst Drivers High-end performance is always a nice thing to have, but driver support and quality are also very important factors. ATI has improved in this area quite significantly, and while their Catalyst integrated drivers may not be at the same level as the NVIDIA Detonator's, to even put them in the same sentence is testament to ATI's new-found dedication to driver support. Throughout our benchmark and game testing, we didn't have a single stability or compatibility issue with the Radeon 9700 Pro. This is actually quite different from other "new generation" video card releases and shows that ATI is working hard in this area. While the drivers are quite good, we did find the usual difficulties switching between AA modes without rebooting the PC. Other than that quibble we are extremely impressed with the initial Radeon 9700 Pro driver release, and can't wait for future revisions and performance boosts. I'm running Win XP with pre SP1 Hotfixes and asside from the refresh fix problem it's rock Solid. Yetix, i'd like to know what your box has? I'm runnin Athlon XP 2000+, 512 DDR Ram with a 19" monitor and I swear I can run all my games including IL-2 @1600x1200 Maxed Out and the color and quality are unbelieveable! So grab XP and the 9700 and you will NOT be dissapointed! BTW changing your OS and Card is not rocking anything but your games! L8r View2Askew

View hi. I currently run Windows XP on a Athlon 1GHz, Radeon 9000 Pro, 256Mb RAM, 17" Monitor and a Maxtor 40GB HDD. What resolutions and texturing do you think I can game at without sacrificing performance?

Hey Kid Bwapo; Sorry but i'm not sure how fast the 9000 is? My card is the 9700 Pro . A different league my friend! Probably 6x faster than your card . Which i understand was made to compete with the GeForce4 MX line and from what i hear is a far better card! So good choice . but a better choice of course would be the 9700 Pro! Anyhowtown, with a 17' monitor the golden res is 1024x768, now as with the settings again not sure what your card can do. I would at this point strongly recommend MORE RAM at least 512 if not a Gig is that SD ram? If so time for a new MOBO with DDR Dimms. The more Ram and CPU a card has at it's disposal, the better performance you should see! So try crankin it up and see your performance hits (no idea of your card capability) then maybe buy more Ram and see ....if your still not happy Buy the Radeon 9700 Pro then you will not need to worry about Performance hits, IT DOES"NT SLOW DOWN, running BF42 @ 1600x1200 Maxed and what eye candy!and FPS! Sorry can't help you more on your settings . Seems I sound more, the 9700 salesman than any real help. L8r View

Yetix : You tell that girl to run and buy the 9700 and then you can show all your lamer GeForce friends a real card! Once they see the Quality Speed and the Vibrant colors this card draws,(in all my years of gaming i have never seen such Eye Candy and Speed on all my games) they can all sit down and eat there NVidias for Breakfast. Believe me when I say this ......
ATI's Radeon 9700 - The Force Crusher ![]() Andantech's review and tests Jedi Knight 2 w/ AA & Aniso 'demo jk2ffa' @ 1600x1200 ATI Radeon 9700 Pro NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 101.2 21.6 The upper number shows the 9700's score 101.2 The lower number is that of the Ti 4600 a poor showing of 21.6 (Sorry no graphs!) Doing the math that is almost 5x faster at high quality, high resolution! |
