Does anyone have a Asus A7V8X-X mobo?
Im having problems with the sound in BF. I get crackling sometimes, its really starting to bug me. This happens whether I use the onboard sound, or a soundblaster PCI card. It works best with the onboard sound though. Ive messed about with the sound settings in BF, Ive also tried changing the hardware acceleration setting in dxdiag, but still get the same problem. I have the latest VIA 4 in one drivers, as well as the latest drivers for my onboard sound card and my Soundblaster card. Specs...... Asus A7V8X-X mobo AMD Athlon XP 2600 (not overclocked) Radeon 9600 Pro @stock settings. 512MB of RAM Windows XP DirectX 9.0b ADI AD1980 (AC'97 Codec) onboard sound. SoundBlaster 4.1 PCI card When I first got the system, I shoved a old hard disk into it, which had win98 on it, I have to say it all ran perfectly, no problems at all with the sound. But, the HD failed, and so I installed XP. I dont want to go back to windows 98, although I suppose it is an option. I could set up a partition on this disk I suppose. Before I had 2 HD in one computer, one with 98 on and the other with XP, games seem to run much faster on 98. Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had the same Mobo, and has the same problem. Or, can any1 give me some advice on how to set up a partition on this disk? |

Try either taking out or deactivating your PCI soundcard. Multiple soundcards cause conflicts in BF. Your Nvidia Soundstorm is an excellent 5.1 soundcard. There is no need for your 4.1 PCI. Rid yourself of it.

I finally managed to get 98SE and XP set up on the same disk. If you ever want to try, you have to install 98 first. Set up an empty partition, then install XP into it. When you boot, it asks you which OS you want to load up.
Well, the sound problems have now completely gone when using 98. Looks like its an XP issue. |

If you search in google for this problem, it shows this post as the 3rd result, wierd !
Anyway, i was looking around for a solution for WinXP, and found this post. http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/p...spx?modelid=30 Downloaded the drivers, and it worked ! No more crackling (at least when playing music) I havent tried it on games yet. If ur using this board, make sure u remember to swap ur speaker cable to the other slot for this to work. Ull see what i mean. |

This is a simple problem to solve. Just update your BIOS or the files up in ASUS main website. This helped me alot. You guys should always and remember to update you BIOS and anything that is related to your comp. This is really helpful for many problems.
