black screen,error sound, back to desktop :'(

i have a problem

whenever i run battlefield 1942, it pops up, makes the screen black, and then i get a error sound (no error message) and then it kicks me back to the desktop.

i have reinstalled and uninstalled twice now and it is still happeneing

does anyone know how to fix this??

win xp home sp1
amd athlon xp 2100
512mb pc2100ram
80gb hdd 5400rpm
ge force 2 mx400 (agp 4x) 64mb
16x dvd rom and a 32x10x40 cd rewriter
blueyonder 512k

the game has worked before, but since applying the 1.4 patch , it has not worked

If it worked before then your system should be O.K. so its gotta be the patch try the new patch 1.45, but download the full patch not the incremental.Everyone is having problems with the incremental.That might be the problem you might be joining serers that have the 1.45 patch.

it doesnt even ge tto a stage where i can join servers...........

i just clikc battlefield 1942 on the desktop, it gets a black screen, then it throws back to desktop with the error sound

I used to get that alot and had to try different things like open and close the cd drive so it would auto start, but then I got All Seeing Eye and havent had that problem since.Maybe try it and see if it helps, they have a free trial you can use. http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html

You need to change the "render.allow all refresh rates" value from 0 to 1. It seems, for some reason, after every patch, this setting is changed back to 0.

I'm at work right now and don't have the exact path, but I believe it is in (assuming a stock setup) C

EA Games\Battlefield1942\mods\BF1942\Settings\video default.con

Open the video default file with a text editor and change the last line from 0 to 1, save it, close it, and restart the game.

I'm having the same problem and tried the solution given, but still no luck. When I open my BF1942, my screen goes black, then goes back to the desktop and then gives me an error sound.

Its the allow refresh rates thingy.
Open this file :
\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\VideoDefault.con
And change renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 to 1, or add it if it isnt listed.

Tried that, but it still didnt work.

i dont have this folder, but i did find a VideoDefault.con file, and i put it in there, still no luck

I've managed to fix my problem (don't know if it's the same one as experienced here though).

Basically mine was crashing to Windows when I started moving the mouse anywhere in B1492 (even in the menu system).

What I did was delete all the files in the profiles folder (Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\ relative to installation path), and then recreate the settings, controls & screen res, etc from in game.

A bit of a pain but it now works again.

well , FINALLY

battlefield 1942 works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was just about to give up...... and i tried one last thing

install to a different directory......eg, C

Program Files\Battlefield 1942\ instead of C

Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\

so just give that a try

Strange how the directory change fixed it.

Oh well, welcome to the world of IT. I have my B1942 installed on my E drive so have never had the standard directory setup.
