Default RE : Install Shield problem - EA NO HELP!!!

Yo,

I am so pissed right now I may break something.

Below is what I have sent to EA. After trying all of thier suggestions, and numerous ones listed on this site I have become to annoyed to continue.

This is either a EA software problem, I know this cause I copied Disc # 2 with no problems.

Whatever Anti-Copy protection they have used may be conflicting with something within windows or within the install shield program.

I have copied all of the files from disc 2 to my HDD as well and I still get the same error right at 87 percent.

Then I get asked for the NON EXSISTENT disc 0. They will need to figure this out.

I for one WILL NOT by ANY other EA games until they give me some customer support.

Scott

The e-mail

I have had this game for almost a year. NOW I cannot EVEN install it because the install shield program stops, DISC 2, at 87%. Giving me the all too WELL known “Specified component cannot be found in the media. An attempt was made to access a component that does not exist in the named media"

I have tried this on another PC: STILL GOT THE SAME PROBLEM.

I have tried reinstalling the install shield ENGINE: SAME PROBLEM.

I have copied the game disc, via Clone CD: SAME PROBLEM.
(A note on the copy, I had no errors, or stalls due to a damaged or scratched disc.)

I have tried all the other suggestions that are ALL OVER the message boards. STILL NOTHING.

I have installed this game a number of 4 times, with no previous problems. If I can copy this CD with no ERRORS, and tried a total of 5 different CD rom drives, on 2 PC, leaves me with one conclusion: this is obviously a flaw in the software, either on your end, or within the windows system.

In closing, you think that I would keep a receipt for almost a year? This is almost a joke. This problem is NOT caused by misuse of a CD, there are NUMEROUS individuals that are having this problems and they have JUST bought this game. I and all of these are YOUR customers. You have an OBLIGATION to sell a product that WORKS.

Not one that SELF Destructs a month before the second expansion pack comes out.

I have owned the game more than 90 days so I have to pay 7.50 to replace a DEFECTIVE piece of software THAT YOU SOLD.

I think not. Fix this, PRONTO.

Default Installed Finally. Then I recieve this IMPERSONAL response

Got the game installed. WITH NO HELP FROM EA.

To do this I unistalled the SWOWWII demo and had no problems. I am not sure if this is what was causeing the install problem. But I got it up and running.

Also, Windows XP has a problem with SAFEDISK encryption there is a patch for this.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...E-1DF707D7A2E9

A word on excryption. Was it not too long ago Phillips stated that if ANY encryption was added to a CD disc that situations such as this would occur? That the name Compact Disc COULD NOT be used because the encryption changes the format.

NOW,

The quite IMPERSONAL response I got from EA.

Here it is:

Do you have another CD rom/DVD/CD-RW Drive on your computer? If so I'd recommend trying to run it from there. Do you have any Virtual CD rom drives running, such as "Daemon Tools" or "Phantom CD"? These programs will emulate a CD rom drive and will confuse the game because it will look to this drive instead of your physical CD rom drive.

If your having trouble with the Installation of the game, you could also try copying the contents of the disk into a folder on your hard drive and try installing from there. Insert the CD into the CD rom. Exit the startup menu when it comes up. Double click "My Computer", then right click on the CD-ROM drive with the game CD in it and select "Explore". Hold the "CTRL" key and then hit "A". That should select all the files. Then hold "CTRL" and hit "C". This will not look like it does much, but it's preparing to copy the files. Then close that folder and go to your desktop. Right click on any blank space, and Select "New", then "Folder". Name the folder "Game files".

Then Double click that folder, and hit "CTRL" and "V". This will begin coping the files from the CD. If the game has more then one CD rom disk, create separate folders for each CD. Once it's complete, remove the CD from your CD rom drive, and double click the setup.exe from the folder you just created.

If the trouble persists, follow the steps appropriate for your operating system. Try them in order and try the game after completing each step. If the trouble continues, proceed to the next step:

Windows 95/98/ME

Step 1
====================================
Download the latest version of DCOM at: http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp

Install the downloaded file afterwards, then restart your computer.

Try adjusting the Supplemental Cache for your CDROM drive:
1. Press the right mouse button on the "My Computer" icon from your Desktop.
2. Select "Properties" from the menu that appears.
3. Select the "Performance" tab from the "System Properties" window.
4. Select the "File System..." button.
5. Select the "CD-ROM"" tab from the "" File System Properties"" window.
6. "Supplemental Cache Size:" should be is set to "Large".
7. "Optimize Access Pattern for:" should be set to "Quad-speed or higher".
Note: If these settings are already correct, try lowering the "Supplemental Cache Size".

Step 2
====================================
Try setting the CD's drive letter to the first letter after the last hard drive.
- Right click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Properties'
- Click on the 'Device Manager' tab.
- Click the plus sign next to CDROM then double-click on the CDROM drive name.
- Click the 'Settings' tab.
- At the bottom set the 'Start Drive Letter' and 'End Drive Letter' to the first letter that is available.
- If another device (such as a Zip drive) is already set to this letter you will need to follow the same steps to set it to a higher letter.
- Click 'Ok' and 'Close' then restart the computer.

Step 3
====================================
If changing the drive lettering does not resolve the trouble, try checking 'Sync Data Transfer' and uncheck 'DMA' (Direct Memory Access) options under the CDROM properties.

***IMPORTANT*** - Do not take this step under Windows XP or 2000

To do this, follow these steps:
- Right click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Properties'
- Click on the 'Device Manager' tab.
- Click the plus sign next to CDROM then double-click on the CDROM drive name.
- Click the 'Settings' tab.
- In the Options box check the box for 'Sync Data Transfer'
- In the same Options box uncheck the box for 'DMA'
- Click 'Ok' on the CDROM properties window then 'Close' on the System Properties window.
- Restart the computer.

Windows 2000/XP

Step 1
====================================
There have been some known issues with CD ROMs reading Safedisk Correctly for Windows XP. You can try this Safedisk Patch and it should resolve your issue:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...E-1DF707D7A2E9

Step 2
====================================
Try setting the CD's drive letter to the first letter after the last hard drive.
- Right click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Manage'
- Click 'Disk Management' in the left pane
- Right click on the CD-ROM and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..."
- Highlight the drive letter in the list and click 'Remove' then click 'Yes' to confirm
- Next, right click on the CD-ROM and again select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..."
- Click 'Add' and select the lowest possible letter then click 'Ok'

Step 3
====================================
With Windows XP, You will also want to assure that compatibility mode is NOT enabled for the setup program. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Put the game cd in the CD-ROM drive. Exit the autorun menu screen.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
3. Right-click your mouse on the cd-rom drive icon. Select explore from the menu that shows up.
4. Explore the cd and find the file SETUP.EXE
5. Once found, Right-click your mouse on the setup.exe icon and select properties from the menu that shows up.
6. In the properties screen, select the compatibility tab at the top.
7. Uncheck the box for "run this program in compatibility mode for".
8. Apply the settings, then hit the OK button.
9. Double-click on SETUP.EXE to start the install program.

If these steps fail, see if you can try to install the disk on another computer to verify the integrity of the disk itself. If setup fails on another system, or you do not have access to another system to try this on, you will want to contact our Warranty department for a replacement disk.

For returns after the 90-day warranty period - Please return the product along with a check or money order for $7.50 made payable to Electronic Arts, and a brief description of the difficulty you are experiencing including your name, address, and phone number to the address below. We strongly recommend that you send your product using a delivery method that is traceable.

Default this crap

I've been reading and reading and reading. Here is my situ.

Been playing BF since it came out, mostly play DC. Decided it was time to upgrade after 3 years so I put together this

AMD 3000+
A7N8X-E deluxe
Saphire ATI 9600 XT 256
New HD
Fresh install of XP pro and all the upgrades

BF-V works fantastic now.

BF will not install, says the media not found issue. At 1st it only went to 48%, cleaned the disk and now it goes all the way to the install. It gets to where it can't find the Sound.con file and that is where I get the "media not found" error.

Done a fresh OS install, done everything listed and am now out of ideas.

HELP ME!!!!!
