Default Battlefield 1942 is choppy regardless of resolution settings

Ok, so I just got a new PC...it's a P4 2.4gb processor, 1gb ram, 128 mb geforce fx 5200 vid card, 7200rpm hard drive.
Bottom line, the game is choppy. Even at lower resolution settings, with nothing running in the background on my machine, the game seems choppy. It's almost like it can't refresh fast enough as I walk or look around. So....what're some things I can check?

Well to beging check your frame rates. Get Fraps and take a look at what ya got. Next if you are thinking that it is the refersh rate then you need to tell us what kind of a monitor you have. Also it could be a sound issue. Make sure that you have all of the drivers updated.[/code]

So now looking around, I'm seeing that lots of people with the fx5200 are having this problem.... This is a brand new Dell machine...they'd better take this card back!
I don't know how to check the frame rate, but I can guarantee it's slow.

How about this card: 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Graphics Card... what's it's track record like with BF???
