Default Battlefield 1942 lifespan?

How long is battlefield going to last with all the mods, new expansion pack, new maps, etc? I'll bet there still will be huge numbers playing 2 years from now, maybe 3.

I'm expecting BF to die down after the good mods are released and around 4 months after BF Vietnam is released. The good things is that all the smacktards will migrate to BF Vietnam leaving only skilled veterans.

Default BF1942 forever!

It will last as long as we remember it in our hearts as the first great combined forces (Land, Air, and Sea) combat FPS.

if SDK is released, I give it about as long as Half-Life, 'cept that there most likely won't be a BF1942-2.

If I didn't keep BF42 installed, I'd have nothing that could piss me off enough to drive me back to Homeworld and AvP2.

I think BF: Vietnam will putt an end to BF 1942 beeing a major multiplayer game. Once a newer and "better" version of a game is released, most players will leave BF 1942. Same with UT. Once UT 2003 was released, you only found the hardcore players left playing UT.

BF 1942 will end, becasue EA will never release an SDK. Look at Half Life. Biggest game ever, becasue they had good mod support. BF. It will be known as the "could have", i give it around 6 more months.

Max, i don't know if i even wanna get Vietnam now, i'll be playing Madden 2004 all fall, seeing that EA Sports did something decent this year and made all online play free, and then after that, Half-life 2, then soldner, and then by that time doom 3 will be out, sorry EA, you really f*cked yourselves this time.

I don't give it as long as I would have thought when the game came out, but it's hard to say even then because I think people will start leaving slowly and not all at once. BF:V will have a big impact on the popularity of BF:42 I think though.

Yup, all those damn smacktards are headed to Vietnam, see if EA was smart, they would give monster support to the DC project, if you look at the Half-Life Devs, they gave monster support to all mods, look at Counter-Strike, they let a team of amature devs mod the hell outta half-life, gave them tons of support, then CS gets big, Valve buys out the CS mod, the sells it retail, and now CS is the biggest Multiplayer Game ever.

If EA was smart, they could take this stragety and do it with Desert Combat, instead of fighting with DC and making a fool of themselves.

rofl @ "hoping aol will get better"

i think BF is just starting to take off. I give it 2 years. most likely, if the engine is better than 42 then the vietnam modders will just port all the old maps over.

the game has legs, been almost a year now...
