Default Ok, I'm stupid...but does this card work?

I got the demo of bf1942 (my full version is in the mail, on the way) and am wondering now if my ATI Radeon 32mb SDR PCI vid card will work? It fails on the demo... is it gonna fail on the full version too???

My wife just got me this vid card for my birthday (on ebay)....
My monitor clicks back and forth from a black screen to the desktop, back and forth, and then gives me an error... "Failed to create 3D device"

well i had an older Rage 128 Pro and had to get a new vcard for this game. but yours should have HT+L (hardware transform and lighting).
try dowloding the latest drivers from ati.com and make sure that directx is running the right driver/settings etc.
run>dxdiag

I had already run dxdiag...directx is fine...
Does the readme say anything about this card not working?
I'll try to find a new driver... my ram is only 128mb, but I'd like to know if this card will work before I spend the money to upgrade my ram...

The original version of the demo didn't work with older Radeon cards. I know because I had a Radeon 32 DDR at that time. I don't remember if there was a patch that fixed this (I think that was the case) but I was finally able to play the Wake demo, so don't despair.

That is if it's a pure Radeon 32 SDR, and not a Radeon VE which is missing the TnL part of the core. The readme should say something, but it was so long ago that I don't remember, sorry.

The game will work with 128MB of RAM, but maps will take a while to load. So leave your hardware the way it is, and see if it runs the game (patched up). If it does, then you can work on improving performance.

Default New problem

Ok, the new ATI driver allowed me to load the game... BUT, now it gets 2/3's of the way thru loading the map and it disappears. Suddenly I'm back on my desktop, no errors, but my display is all jacked. The game, before it exited, changed all my display settings to the poor resolution the game was using... is this a RAM issue? Or a known bug???

BoiseXJ, have you checked out:
http://www.rage3d.com ?
there are some serious gearheads in their forums and know Bf'42 well.
then again maybe someone here knows the answer to this.
