Crashing crashing crashing!!!

I'm beginning to hate BF1942. Not that it's a bad game or anything, but it keeps crashing! Single player works fine. It's just multiplayer. If I can connect on the first try the game runs fine. If it fails in any way, like failed to connect or server is full, I am booted to the desktop.

DC .38 won't even start at all. I tried going to custom game and also connecting to a DC server and it goes to the desktop. Things were better with 1.31. I didn't notice the BF1942 1 connect problem in 1.31, maybe it happened. DC though, happened often, but at least sometimes I could play.

Please help, I know I'm not alone. I've seen many threads on this but really no solution. Tried most of the solutions like refresh rate blah blah
