After playing 1.4 for a bit know I´ve come to the conclusion, that the new Assault rifles are rather strong and accurate (a lot like the Breda) compared with the original weapons. The assault rifle balance was fairly good between BAR and Stg, but now the new rifles seem to won the lot. Especially the russian DP is overpowered with its 47 rounds magazine and far to accurate.
Instead of making the assault rifles more and more powerfully DICE should try to balance them more. At the moment I think the game weapons need a little tweaking. I generally think all weapons in-game are to accurate for good gameplay. DP: higher RoF, less accurate Type 99: lower RoF Breda: less accurate BAR: fine Stg: fine

Personally I think it really depends how you use the assault rifles. I think the DP is aimed for the real team players. Remember how MoH used the BAR very much for covering fire? Well I think that's probably what DiCE were aiming for here. Something where some guy could kneel on a corner of a street in Berlin, and just pull the trigger, while the rest of his team move to another position.
The STG is greatly improved, whilst I don't like the new sound I think it comes closer to competing with the BAR. I think it really depends what situation you find yourself in. Personally if I am on an open map with a lot of space I prefer the BAR because it is far more accurate over range. It's easy to take people down from about 600 m away. However, if I'm defending or trying to clear the stairway on a map like Stalingrad, I'd take an STG any day of the week. It has more bullets, is more powerful in its initial shots, and the spray created is better for close combat.

valid points justice, but the game has been out for a while now and players are getting better too. my new fav still is the SKS in EoD...very sensitive r.o.f. you can fire 1, 3, or full auto with just mouse click pressure.

in real life there were no 3 round burst/full auto sks. russia didnt get small auto until the kalishnikov action. also there are no select fire ak's that i've ever seen, smei or full auto only.

"In the 1950's, Soviet technical advisors helped the Chinese government to establish several factories to produce the SKS carbine. The first Chinese SKS carbines were identical to their Soviet counterparts, and were adopted by the Peoples Republic of China as the Type 56 carbine. Subsequently, the Chinese have manufactured several varieties of the original SKS, including selective-fire models, short-barreled "paratrooper" models, and models which use the detachable magazine of the later AK-47 assault rifle."
there a a gagillion types of these weapons. mainly interchangeable with the AK series by time of the Vietnam War. I'm probably confusing the game's assault weapon with my own SKS's from that era. They have AK parts, mags, and look almost identical to my friends AK's. *http://www.hk94.com/sks-rifle.html*

I think that at last the balance is right with all the assault rifles now.
They all have diif characteristics but all pack a real punch which is surely the point. I'm particularly pleased they've tweaked the STG.
