I browse these forums on this site often, sometimes in search for info other times just to see what's happening. I found that some peeps write some very good suggestions/tips/work-arounds, etc.. or just post some very informative info, but these posts tend to become buried in threads - kinda makes it difficult to find the info again even through the forum search.
I'm not sure if this has been suggested/mentioned before, heck I'm not even sure if it's possible to implement considering the use of PHP for these forums, but here goes: Is it possible to add some sort of a "quality of thread" indicator in the forums... say a user-input ranking system of 0-5 stars that would indicate the quality of info found in threads? Essentially like a voting system - if the info in a thread is found useful/informative/good then a user might rank it a ??/5 stars. IMO this would make it easier to quickly identify and offer quick access to quality info and (hopefully) compel people to write something good to begin with. The use of the voting system could perhaps be implemented by a pop-up of a seperate window. Any thoughts on this? Chef Â* Â* |

I took the liberty of creating a mock-up of what the rating system would look like in a forum - I used this forum as an example.
Could something like this be implemented? If need be, I could create the stars (or whatever other symbol) required for this. Again, I think it would be kinda neat to have some system where users rate the thread in terms of importance/informativeness/usefulness, etc. The image is large but shows the added "User rating" column well. Any thoughts? ![]() Chef Â* |

I do see your point. However, for around two years I have been visiting a Codename Eagle and Battlefield 1942 message board powered by EzBoard. EzBoard had a ranking system on topics, but it was never really used. It was just cluttering up the board layout in my opinion. There was a seperate column for ranking, but it was most often left empty.
I'm not saying it will be the same here, but I have my doubt about it changing. Anyway, I'm trying to work out a forum reinstall with more hacks, so I'll see what happens. Maybe I'll post a poll or something. |

Thanks for keeping an open ear Rexxie. I understand that some features won't be worthwhile and it's kind of sad to hear. Like so many here in these forums mention - this place (BFNATION) is a great meeting place for discussion and particularly suggestions and helpful hints/tips - the members are more mature and willing to help others out which is fantastic, that's partly the reason I presented this suggestion in the first place. Also IMO it might help reduce double/triple posting on a similar topic if one thread already receives high ranking as informative/interesting.
Cheers to you and BFNATION crew for a good site Chef BTW, if you guys do need help with graphics (ranking system, others) pls let me know - I'm willing and able to help you out. |
