First thing you'll have to do is get mIRC. You can get it from mirc.com.
The installation is pretty straight-forward, I'm not going to guide you through that. ![]() When you start mIRC for the first time, the mIRC options should pop up. It doesn't really matter what you type in the full name field, I usually just write my nickname. Same goes for email address. However, I usually keep the first part (rexxie@) correct, as this will be a part of your hostmask. Type in your nickname in the nickname field, but be aware that IRC doesn't allow spaces in nicknames. Please use your forum nickname as the IRC nickname, so we can give points to the correct person. The alternative field is the nickname that will be used as an alternative if the primary nick is already in use. BFN_<forum nick> is a good choice. ![]() Now click on "Servers" and chose Gamesnet as the IRC Network. You should be able to chose between east and west US servers, but you can also add the european server if you want. If so, click on "Add" and do the same as in this picture. Click "Connect To Server". ![]() You should see some messages like "Looking up your hostname", and eventually the window above should pop up. Type in #bfnation and click "Join". ![]() You should now have something like the window above. You are now in the BF Nation channel and ready to chat. The list to your right is the nicklist, which displays which users are currently in the channel. Users with @ in front of their nicks are operators, which means they can kick and ban people from the channel, set the channel topic and stuff like that. No, we won't "op" you, so don't ask ![]() Users with + in front of their nicks means they are "voiced", which in reality doesn't really do much, but we can choose to lock the channel, and voiced people will then be able to talk. ![]() Above is an example of how the trivia bot will ask it's questions. The bot has to have the full answer, for example, it won't pick up on "anime", you have to write "animehackerboy" for it to work (not case sensitive though). We might add some colors to the bot so it will be easier to see the question, we'll figure that out later. Hope this helped. If you have any questions please do post them. |
