Default Post your BF'42 Secret Weapons Review!

OK, with 20 plus hours of online play of only BF'42 Secret Weapons, here's my review:

Pro's

-New maps are large, detailed and expansive. Very well done.
-No bugs that I could find
-New weapons and vehicles add significantly to game play. They don't feel gimmicky.
-Core fundemantal game-play and balance still exists that we've come to enjoy from BF'42. No surprises. Allies and Axis are are still well matched.
-Intuitive controls, easy to learn.
-Injects new life into a title that is now 1 year old.

Con's

-Frame rate hit with new larger, detailed maps.
-Some jets and rockets feel *too fast*
-$30 bucks, for an expansion pack is steep. $20 would've been better.
-Have to own BF'42 already to play.
-Clearly an addition, not complete or comprehensive enough to be it's own game.
-Feel as if EA / Dice are submitting *just* enough content to keep people playing and paying.

Verdict

-If you're a BF'42 fan, get this Secret Weapons Expansion pack. You'll enjoy it.

-If however, you have yet to purchase BF'42, it's not *quite* worth it as you'll need to plunk down about $100.00 now for BF'42, Road to Rome expansion pack and now Secret Weapons Expanstion Pack.

Post yours!

good points cowboy.

like he said if you've been playing and want to expand with some cool new maps, weapons, and 'jectives then it's worth it.

Framrate is an important issue for me. I canplay regular BF with 20-30 fps (max is about 50 when watching a wall).
Sometimes I even get less than 20 fps. I was considering to get the expansion pack, but if it is more than 20 bux, and if the hardware-hunger has grone, then I won´t get it.

So, can anyone tell me if I can play SW with 20-30 fps ?

Road to Rome is not required to play Secret Weapons. Only BF1942.

on some maps yes but on other maps no, if you want to be able to play with 64 bots and 1024 by 768 on essen youll need a beast of a machine.

I won´t play with bots, and my DSL connection can only hadle up to 40 players, before it starts to lag.
I mean, are the maps even hardware-hungrier than normal BF, or maybe even as DC ?

the maps are very nice, lots of cover for some of them, so you can hide from a plane coming to strafe you- its not like that in some maps, but most... the planes are very very cool.the german stealth fighter is a good mix of the natter and the goblin- not as kick-ass as the natter, and cant quite keep up with the goblin, but it is a great mix and is OK for destrooying both planes and tanks, VS the goblin being strict air plus mb a few guys and the Natter being the best antitank weapon ive seen. the stealth fighter is the only plane ive ever used that i have the need to reload my machine guns. i lke how you can shoot two roickets at a time, so they are good for hitting those C-47's because you have twice the chance- they are not compltely simaltaneous

the Wasserfall missle system is really cool. i like how hard it is to control because that makes it realistic and a bit more of a challnge. the camera shake does not effect me much but it adds to how cool it feels. definitely use the keyboard for this, as anything else just doesnt woirk so well. i dislik how youy must fire with the mouse button though, because you have to jump over to the keyboards with your hands. no biggie. i love to kill the C-47 because you can get so many kills and also it obviously cripples the allied advance. i oftengo for it and kill it, then take the next missile up to kill the next C-47. the stealth bomber is too hard to hit but i can doi it with a couple passes.

do the higgins boats seem bigger? i dunno.. maybe just me... i havent playe been a map with them in a long time... but i guess they are a bit TOO small because the real ones were 'gigantamocent'

i havent played all the maps extensively except for Hellendoorn. the allies and axis all have thier very own cool-ass stuff. the allies have new arty's and those rocket-shermans are so damn cool! they can whoop anything! i gotta try and go anti- air with one of those that would be fun.

the sound effects KICK ASS. the tanks all have specific sounds, for moving and for rotating the turret. the explosions sound better- and teh planes- oh the planes! i love coming down and you hear the roaring of the engines and eeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr BADABAdAAaadadadada! BOOM! *cough*

the sounds of the bullets hitting shit around you is cool, and have you ever just barely dodged a rocket? it whistles! whee!
