Following DICE's announcement in October 2005, where they said that they had licensed the rights to EAUK to develop XBox and PlayStation2 versions of an untitled, presumably Battlefield, game, DICE have stated that development of this title has been cancelled. The decision was apparently made due to falling sales for games on both consoles, presumably due to the introduction of next-generation consoles. DICE goes on to say that in order for them to receive royalties from games, they must sell at least 4 million copies (due to the high cost of development), however Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for Xbox and PS2 have only sold approximately 1 million copies. Quote:
The final part of the press release talks about the Battlefield 2 expansion pack, "Special Forces". The add-on was launched in late November 2005, and was DICE's first product sold directly via EA’s homepage, using the EA downloader software. Until December 31 2005 approximately 50,000 copies of Special Forces were sold online. The full press release can be read on the Global DICE website. |
