Another thing to decrease the time between battlefield loading up an getting to the servers screen is deleting items inside the movies folder.

Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\movies
delete all files with the
exception of menu and menu_logged.
So, again dont delete menu and menu_logged but everything else can go.
If you do delete them, the game still runs properly, just in the initial login it looks like rubbish.
