You choose a weapon unlock, and that weapon's only available to the class it was intended for. So if you unlock the G36C it can only be used when you're using the Assault class (I think it's Assault..I don't play that much).

When you login to the game a thing comes up offering you the unlock, and you click the one you want. It's really obvious, and you can't do it by mistake really.

99.9% of the time I play medic (only reason I play others is to bulk up my medals), so I unlocked the L85A1. I figured there's not much sense in unlocking a weapon I'm never, or rarely, gonna use.
