Default BFV locking up during play. Audio codec problem?

Hi folks. It used to be that Battlefield Vietnam worked fine for me, until the new 1.1 patch. The CTDs i can handle - it's when my computer locks up completely mid-game that makes me cry. I have to push the reset button and restart my comp.

I'm pretty sure it's a sound problem, since when it locks up I get audio stuttering. I've tried pretty much everything to solve the problem. My drivers are all up to date. I have uninstalled and reinstalled BFV to no effect. I have taken out my PCI soundcard and used my motherboards onboard sound card. I have completely turned off audio hardware acceleration.

None of the above has worked. Hence, my last ray of hope is that it might be due to my audio codecs conflicting. I hope you can give me some insight into whether or not this is true. I have the following audio codecs installed, running in the following priority.

01. msadp32.acm
02. msg711.acm
03. imaadp32.acm
04. msgsm32.acm
05. tssoft32.acm
06. msg723.acm
07. Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
08. DivX Audio Codec
09. Microsoft PCM Converter
10. lhacm.acm
11. Windows Media Audio

I realise this is a long shot, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to start fiddling around and removing these unless I have a good idea of the effect.

a quick glance at my audio hardware

MPU-401 Compatible MIDI device
Creative AudioPCI (ES1371, ES1373) (WDM) - my PCI soundcard is a Soundblaster Live! Value
i also have "Legacy Audio Drivers" in the list

At the very least, could someone please post if they're having the same locking up problem, so I know I'm not alone.
