No. This procedure is not related to the RAM proper. This involves clearing the non-volatile system bios RAM that is integrated into the motherboard. Some systems have a jumper designed specifically for this purpose, but in most cases you will have to completely reset the bios. To accomplish this all you have to do is shut down the system, disconnect the power, and
remove the motherboard battery. Ensure that any capacitance power has dissipated, and then reassemble. Once this is done you will have to revisit all of your bios settings to re-enter settings for clock, date, hdd, AGP, etc. I’ve seen this cure some really bizarre situations. This is an especially useful troubleshooting step if you have an IDE device that isn’t being seen properly by the system. I have seen a lot of systems written off as having bad controllers on the motherboard when this is all that was needed.
