It has got to the point for me that I almost ignore the chat that goes on. Most of the time I find it's exactly like what urs said being nothing for a while and then a huge spew of stuff that's so outdated that it screws me up more then helps.
That and all the "sub spotted" and crap when there couldn't be a sub(berlin). Sometimes I wish that BF would only allow relevent spotting depending upon which map your on.
