Category IconBF2142 Stats Hacked
Posted at 03:57:33 CST by kook
BFHQ is reporting that the Battlefield 2142 stats program has been hacked. Some players are now working to pad stats and artificially increase play scores.

It has been brought to our attention that there are hacked ranked servers running which allow the artificial increase of player scores. We are working with all parties involved to shut these servers down, prevent further use of the ranked servers for padding purposes and resetting those player accounts which have been found to be stat padding.

Please be vigilant when connecting to a server for unusual behaviour including extremely short round times and excessively high scores by others on the server. If you suspect the server is being used for padding purposes please disconnect and report the server IP address to EA Customer Support at http://support.ea.com

Our friends over at EnemyDown have passed along some intel regarding the upcoming season of the 2142 Infantry league.

Sign ups for Season 2 of the EDBF2142L are now open! Season 2 will contain 16 clans in 2 divisions lasting for 7 weeks. Matches will be held on Monday nights at 8pm GMT if you are unable to make Mondays, then you will most likely be giving away defaults if the other team cannot reschedule. Please think of this before signing up.

The divisions will be announced once sign ups are complete. They will be based on the standings in season 1 and ladder performances.

You can signup your team here and or join the discssusion on the EnemyDown 2142League board.

Category IconEA and the port to MAC
Posted at 18:02:39 CST by kook
ExtremeTech has published an opinion-based article discussing how Electronic Arts plans on "porting" the numerous Triple-A titles they plan on releasing this summer and fall. Unmentioned to the WWDC attendees, TRANSGAMING's "cider" software to run windows games on macs.

Some background on CIDER:

"Cider is a sophisticated portability engine that allows Windows games to be run on Intel Macs without any modi.cations to the original game source code. Cider works by directly loading a Windows program into memory on an Intel-Mac and linking it to an optimized version of the Win32 APIs. Games are .wrapped. with the Cider engine and they simply run on the Mac. This means developers have only one code base to maintain while enjoying the .exibility of targeting multiple platforms and, therefore, multiple revenue streams. Cider powered games use the same copy protection, lobbies, game matching and connectivity as the original Windows game. All this means less effort and lower costs. Cider is targeted to game developers and publishers."

So, while Electronic Arts will be releasing a flurry of titles for the mac and filling a major void, they are not native ports and (more than likely) wont achieve similar or better performance than that of its WINDOWS based counter-parts.

Could this be an announcement for lots of EA games on OS X? Yes! Starting in July, they're bringing "four of their biggest titles". Command & Conquer 3, Battlefield 2142, Need for Speed Carbon, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Demoing Harry Potter now. Category IconNorthern Strike Mini Review
Posted at 16:37:51 CST by K_Shizzle
Local forum member Sarge has given a mini review on BF2142's booster back Northern Strike.

Overall this map is pretty fun, and one of my favorites. There is so much going on, you can play any class with effectiveness here and you have a wide variety of vehicles to choose from. There is so much going on that you will always have lots to do. The maps can go either way but is decided usually on the taking or keeping of the bridge. Whoever holds it usually wins the map so focus on keep it for either side. The first few times I played it, I hated it but now that I’ve played it more and found out more about the map it is much more playable. It’s so wide and has such a wide range of employable tactics to keep different flags that you’ll come to like it too. Just don’t get backed up to the back base as PAC and you’ll enjoy it using these guidelines above!
